Competition Information

Competition Process

MEC Online Americas 2027 will be held entirely online. Participants are required to complete registration and submit the required materials through the MEC dashboard. Selected teams will advance to the live online Final Round, where they will present their business ideas in real time. Teams will be evaluated by professors and domain experts from top universities and Fortune 500 companies.

2026.08.10 (EDT GMT-4)|Registration and Payment Deadline for MEC Online Americas 2026

  • Students can form teams of 3-6 members to register.
  • Once your team is formed and confirmed, each member may proceed with individual payment.

2026.08.10 (EDT GMT-4)|Business Proposal Submission Deadline

  • Your team must upload the Business Proposal to the MEC dashboard before the deadline for your registration to be considered complete.

2026.08.25 - 08.31 (EDT GMT-4)|Judge Feedback on First Round Submission

  • Each team will receive feedback and guidance from the Judges. Some teams will move directly into the Final round, while others will have a chance to re-submit their business proposal for reconsideration.

2026.09.10 (EDT GMT-4)|Revision of Business Proposal Deadline

  • Teams are encouraged to revise and resubmit their Business Proposal based on feedback received. Any revised submission will be included in the final review process when determining advancement to the next stage.

2026.09.22 (EDT GMT-4)|Finalists Decision Deadline

  • All teams will be notified of their results by this date. Depending on the number of participating teams, some teams may be placed on a waitlist.

2026.11.15 (EST GMT-5)|Final Business Proposal, Pitch Video & Commercial Video Submission Deadline

  • Please ensure that you submit the final draft of your Business Proposal, Pitch Video, and Commercial Video through the MEC Dashboard by the deadline.

2026.11.22 (EST GMT-5)|Peer Review Team Announcement

  • Teams will be able to access their Peer Review Team (PRT) details and relevant materials through the MEC Dashboard for PRT session preparation.

2026.11.30 - 12.30 (EST GMT-5)|Commercial Video Voting

Commercial video voting will take place on YouTube, where the most attention wins. Marketing is a crucial skill for any successful entrepreneur, and this is your chance to prove just how good you are!

All videos will be publicly accessible on IEG’s official YouTube channel. Now it’s time to rally your friends, family, and supporters to like, share, and view your video. The more engagement your video gets, the higher your chances of winning the Best Marketing Award!

  • This is a mandatory online orientation session. Each team is required to have at least one representative in attendance.

  • Each team will receive feedback and guidance from the Judges to support their preparation for the upcoming stages of the competition.

2027.01.12 (EST GMT-5)|Awards Ceremony

Awards for MEC Online Americas 2027 will be announced during the online Awards Ceremony, which will be held on the evening following the final day of the competition. The exact time and access link will be announced at a later date.

Awards for the MEC Online Americas 2027:

  • 1st Place: $8,800 ($1,000 start-up fund; $1,250 in IEG program scholarships per member; $50 MEC scholarship per member)
  • 2nd Place: $7,000 ($700 start-up fund; $1,000 in IEG program scholarships per member; $50 MEC scholarship per member)
  • 3rd Place: $5,600 ($500 start-up fund; $800 in IEG program scholarships per member; $50 MEC scholarship per member)
  • Additional team awards will be listed in the MEC Brochure.

Submission Requirements

Each team must submit one detailed business plan, one pitch video, and one commercial video. For full details on the requirements, please refer to the guidelines below.

 

Business Proposal Requirements

    • Your Business Proposal should include the following:
      1. Cover Page:
        Include your team name, logo, team members’ names, school name, and the supervising teacher’s name (if applicable).
      2. Product or Service Introduction:
        Introduce the product or service you have designed. How did you come up with your business idea? Why do you want to create this product or service?
      3. Problem or Opportunity Identification:
        Describe an existing pain point you aim to solve or a business opportunity you have identified.
      4. Market Analysis:
        Conduct a thorough market analysis. Identify your target customers and describe the key customer segments that would benefit the most from your product or service. Include market size, trends, and the competitive landscape.
      5. Value Proposition:
        Explain the unique value your product or service offers. Why should customers choose your solution over competitors’? What makes it stand out in the market, and what benefits will your customers gain from using it?
      6. Marketing Strategy:
        Outline your marketing strategy. How will you reach your target audience? What channels will you use to promote your product? What will be the key messages in your marketing campaign, and how do you plan to position your brand?
      7. Financial Analysis:
        Provide a comprehensive financial analysis. What is your pricing strategy, and how do you plan to cover costs and generate profit? Are there any key partnerships or suppliers? Include details on projected revenue, break-even analysis, and profit forecasts.
      8. Realistic Next Steps:
        What practical steps will your team take to implement the business? Outline the key milestones and specific actions required to successfully launch and scale your business as you move forward.
    • The submissions of your Business Proposal should be under 20 pages and no more than 25 MB in PDF format. Please refer to examples 1, 2, 3, and 4.
    • Please follow this naming convention for your Business Proposal:

    Pitch Video Requirements

      • Each team will be required to create a Pitch Video presenting their business idea, product, or service. This exercise evaluates your ability to clearly communicate your concept, demonstrate strategic thinking, and deliver a compelling pitch. Teams are expected to present their value proposition, market opportunity, and business model in a concise and persuasive manner.
      • What is a Pitch Video?
        A Pitch Video is a short, structured presentation designed to communicate your business idea effectively, similar to an investor pitch. The video should clearly explain your concept and demonstrate its potential. Pitch Videos typically include the following elements:
        • Problem & Solution: Clearly define the problem and present your solution.
        • Value Proposition: Explain what makes your idea unique and impactful.
        • Market Opportunity: Briefly describe your target market and potential.
        • Business Model: Outline how your business creates value or generates revenue
      • There are no restrictions on the form and style of the video, but the video content must comply with relevant international video and advertising laws and regulations. Racial discrimination, pornographic or violent content, and excessively exaggerated, vulgar, or false advertising content are not allowed in the video.
      • All submitted videos should be either your original creations or properly licensed, including any necessary copyrights or permissions. MEC is not responsible for verifying these rights and will not be liable for any copyright infringements.
        The video should be no more than 4 minutes long, no more than 80 MB in file size, and must be in MP4 format. Please refer to examples 1 and 2.

    Commercial Video Requirements

      • Each team will be required to shoot a Commercial Video promoting their business ideas, products, or services. This exercise not only showcases creativity and communication skills, but also strengthens critical thinking as teams must distill their core value proposition and present it in a compelling and strategic way. (Examples)
      • What is a Commercial Video? A Commercial Video is a short, engaging film created to showcase your business idea, product, or service. Think of it as a mini-advertisement designed to capture attention and spark interest. Commercial Videos typically include the following elements:
        • Introduction: Briefly introduce your business or product.
        • Benefits: Highlight what makes it special and why people would want or need it.
        • Call to Action: Tell viewers what you want them to do next (such as visiting your website or buying your product).

        Let your creativity shine and make sure your video is captivating and represents your unique concept! The sky’s the limit!

    Scoring Guidelines

    Each team will be evaluated based on their business proposal and performance during the online competition. Judges will score each team according to the criteria outlined below.

    First Round

    Vision & Ethics – 25%

    • Originality: Demonstrates bold and creative approaches to addressing a meaningful problem.
    • Ethical Responsibility: Balances innovation with ethical considerations and positive social or environmental impact.
    • Impact Potential: Shows the capacity to create meaningful change in its chosen context.

    Market Opportunity – 25%

    • Value Proposition: The appeal of your product or service to your customers and how well it meets their needs.
    • Customer Segmentation: Identification of key customers and their needs.
    • Market Overview & Reach: Demonstrates convincing evidence of market size, growth, and potential impact.
    • Competitive Analysis: Assessment of your potential competitors and their market positioning.

    Business Model – 25%

    • Value Alignment: Ensures the business model aligns with customer needs and delivers strong value.
    • Revenue Model: Outlines clear and sustainable methods of generating income.
    • Marketing Strategy: Develops an effective and creative plan to engage the target audience, leveraging appropriate channels, customer insights, and resources.
    • Sustainability & Scalability: Demonstrates the potential for expansion and long-term growth while maintaining a resilient and sustainable business model.

    Financial & Execution Strategy – 25%

    • Cost Structure: A comprehensive breakdown of all potential expenses.
    • Financial Analysis: Realistic and detailed financial projections for the first 3–5 years of your business.
    • Execution Plan: Identifies potential risks and proposes practical strategies to address them.
    • Investment Potential: The attractiveness of the business idea to potential investors, showcasing a strong value proposition for a scalable, repeatable, and executable business model with significant market opportunity and investment potential.

    Final Round - Advanced Teams

    Final Business Proposal – 30%

    • Vision & Impact: Demonstrates a clear, innovative solution with meaningful social or market impact.
    • Market Understanding: Presents a compelling value proposition supported by strong market research, customer segmentation, and competitive analysis.
    • Business Model & Proposition: Shows strong alignment with customer needs, a clear revenue model, long-term sustainability, and potential for future growth.
    • Financial & Execution Plan: Combines realistic cost and revenue projections with a clear execution strategy, addresses risks, and demonstrates strong investment potential.

    Pitch Video – 30%

    • Clarity of Pitch: Clearly communicates the problem, solution, and core value proposition in a structured and concise manner.
    • Business Understanding: Demonstrates a solid understanding of the business concept, including market opportunity and target audience.
    • Strength of Value Proposition: Presents a compelling and differentiated idea with clear potential impact.
    • Presentation & Delivery: Ensures the video is clear, well-organized, and easy to follow.

    Final Live Competition – 40%

    • Peer Review and Judge Q&A: Provides comprehensive responses with clear logic, theory, and data support to questions from the Peer Review Team and the judges.
    • Team Collaboration and Confidence: Demonstrates confidence and teamwork. It is not a one-person effort.

    Commercial Video Voting (Separate Awards for Winners)*

    • Best Marketing Award: The award will be based on the number of views and engagements. All videos will be featured on our official YouTube channel.
      *Note: The results of the video voting will not be included in the final score.
